I saw Charles. He was playing guitar but I immediately noticed his striking eyes and untamed hair. I knew Charles was homeless. I had seen him many times downtown.
I asked Charles if I could take some shots for a project I was working on and he was glad for me to take his portrait. We sat and talked a bit. He told me to look him up on Facebook and that he had an album out.
He asked me if I could come back and film him. I told him video was something I wanted to get into but not quite yet.
I showed him the images and he was very free with his opinions about them. He said he really liked how he looked.
This image was my favorite because in that moment he wasn't homeless and I wasn't the one not homeless.... we were/are the same.
